Plymouth Argyle beat Exeter City

A thrilling Devon Derby

Full-Time: Plymouth Argyle 4-2 Exeter City

For the first time since 2019, the Devon derby kicked off at Home Park. In the previous meeting of these clubs Exeter City beat Plymouth Argyle 4-0.   This time, four goals had been scored by the winning team again, Plymouth scoring four to be victorious over their nearest rivals Exeter City.

Plymouth Argyle made history this evening at Home Park, winning all of their home games this season. Nine out of nine home games they have won this season. The first time in their existence! Argyle are now four points clear at the top of the league one table. Exeter City remain in tenth place in the league.

The game started quickly with Exeter City showing high tempo during the first ten minutes. It was clearly derby day as some of the challenges were fierce and intense.

A well-worked goal for Exeter City finished off by Archie Collins made the travelling fans ecstatic. However, this lead lasted less than 90 seconds, as Plymouth Argyle scored an equaliser instantly. A great response from Argyle to level the game.

The teams were level going into the first half at one-all.

Plymouth Argyle had the most of the possesion during the first five minutes of the second half. But Exeter City pounced on the Plymouth Argyle corner and Jay Stansfield broke the line and placed a precise through ball into Sam Nombe who put the Grecians into the lead within ten minutes of the second half.

However, Exeter's lead didn't last long again with Plymouth scoring a screamer to equalise the score. Argyle attacker, Mamba smashed the ball from over 30 yards out into the bottom corner. An enthralling 15 minutes into the second half.

Two brilliant goals from Plymouth substitute Hardie, made it that Exeter were second best in the derby.

Making the full time score Plymouth 4-2 Exeter City.
