Torquay house devastated in fire

WATCH: 10 flats affected

A fire has devised a home on Windsor Road, Torquay.

Emergency services were called to the property around 3.30pm on Friday. Fire crews from Dawlish, Brixham, Crownhill, Torquay, Paignton, Teignmouth, and Newton Abbot - along with a command unit from Totnes and a water bowser from the central Exeter station Danes Castle - worked on the blaze, which had spread to the roof. A 'welfare appliance' from Ivybridge and other officers were also involved.

A female casualty was treated by paramedics for burns, but even after crews had been at the scene for around an hour, they were unable to account for everyone who may have been inside. Some neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.

Around 6pm it was confirmed that everyone was safe and some time later crews began the damping down process and help people living in adjacent properties to collect belongings.

Shortly after midnight, fire crews withdrew, promising to return on Saturday to assess the situation.

The property consisted of 10 flats. The ground floor was totally damaged by smoke and water, first floor 60 per cent damaged by fire and totally damaged by smoke and water. The second floor and roof were 75 per cent damaged by fire smoke and water.
