They've raised over £160,000 since 2017

Last month the Torbay Lottery celebrated its fifth birthday and shined a light on the local community groups that have benefitted from its support.

Since its launch in 2017, the Torbay Lottery has raised more the £167,500 for the local community and more than £38,000 has been given away in winnings with four people each winning £2,000.

More than 126 local groups have signed up to the Torbay Lottery as a part of a fun and effective way to raise funds for their much-valued services in the community.

Friends of the Vigilance of Brixham, PATH Torbay, and Tissues and Issues are three of the most successful Good Causes. In the past five years, Friends of the Vigilance have raised more than £7,860, PATH Torbay £5,645 and Tissues and Issues £2,143.

Councillor Christine Carter, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services at Torbay Council said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported our local groups and organisations over the past five years through the Torbay Lottery to help make a difference in our communities. We could not do it without the generous support of all the weekly players. Please continue to support us and encourage other local groups and organisations to sign up so they too can benefit.”

Jackie King from Tissues and Issues said “Torbay Lottery has really helped us to provide continued support to our parents. With monies raised from ticket sales we can continue with our coffee mornings, creche provision, support and advice. We promote ticket sales and support through our public and private sales, and we’d like to thank everyone who plays for our cause.”

Since the Torbay Lottery was set up £67,136 (including £11,000 match funding in 2020/2021 to help local groups deal with the impact of COVID-19) has been raised through ticket sales and given out to local good causes through the Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund.

Over the last year the Torbay Lottery has continued to help many local good causes raise vital funds after they were unable to carry out their usual fundraising activities owing to the pandemic.
