Storm Dennis brings flooding and disruption

WATCH: Weather causes havoc on Devon roads

Storm Dennis has caused havoc across Devon, leading to fallen trees and flooding.

Dozens of flood alerts and more serious flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected, have been issued for Devon rivers overnight and into Sunday.

A Met Office amber weather warning, covering large parts of South Devon, remains in force until 3pm on Sunday, while there are also yellow wind and rain warnings for the whole county.

It has led to huge disruption on Devon's roads, most dramatically on the A379 at Kenton, heading towards Starcross, where a fallen tree blocked off the road (pictured)

The short video above also shows the road from Clyst St George to Clyst St Mary suffered serious flooding.

This evening the situation continues to look bleak, and Devon County Council says the following roads are closed:

• A383 near Dartmoor Halfway House (flooding)
• A384 Buckfastleigh towards Dartington (flooding)
• B3176 Bowd Inn towards Sidmouth (flooding)
• A379 Kenton (tree)

Other minor roads close to rivers are also closed or difficult to pass, while the council is advising drivers not to travel unless your journey is essential.

The Environment Agency has issued dozens of flood alerts and more serious flood warnings across the county. It includes the River Exe from Tiverton to Exeter, including Bickleigh, where flooding is expected.

The warning states: "Heavy rain is falling over the River Exe catchment and will continue throughout Sunday, causing the River Exe to rise. River levels are forecast to continue rising into Sunday afternoon.

"Properties and low lying areas in Bickleigh, Copenhagen, Traymill , Thorverton Mill, Nether Exe and Bampford Speke will start to flood first from around 5am on Sunday. Flood waters may be deep and fast flowing in these areas. Residents are strongly urged to take action now."

Other warnings include the River Dart from Buckfastleigh to Totnes, the River Teign and the River Clyst from Broadclyst to Clyst St. Mary.

On the trains, flooding is expected to close lines between Exeter St Davids and Taunton, along with Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple.
