Radio Exe listening up 75 per cent

Matt Rogers and Ashley Jeary are on the up, again

The only station broadcasting across Devon from Devon throughout the day

Listening to Radio Exe has jumped 75 per cent in the last year.

Latest audience figures from industry analysts Ipsos Mori/Rajar, covering the whole of 2023, show people tune into the station for much longer each week than in 2022.

Locally owned Radio Exe is one of a handful of independent stations in the UK and is the only one broadcasting from Devon across the county throughout the day.

The official audience figures only cover the eastern part of the coverage area, including Exeter, East and Mid Devon, Teignbridge and Torbay. In this area, around 57,000 adults tune in each month.

Other figures, from radio.co, which measured digital-only listening (excluding radio transmissions on FM and DAB) show around 20,000 people listen to Radio Exe Plymouth, which streams the station online, on Radio Exe's own app and website, and other apps such as RadioPlayer and TuneIn Radio Exe. Around the same number also stream Radio Exe Devon.

Radio Exe's managing director Paul Nero says: "We're so pleased to be hitting a spot with listeners choosing to stay with us for longer each week. We have new innovations too, such as our digital station Flashback, on DAB in Exeter, Torbay, Teignbridge and Plymouth, and on a stream through the Radio Exe app. And our rugby podcast Two Locks and a Cox, and local politics podcast Devoncast are finding new audiences too. We'd encourage more people to lend us their ears and celebrate everything Devon."
