Transport Secretary approves plans

Increased charges to cross the River Tamar have been given the go-ahead by the transport secretary.

It currently costs £2.60 for cars and vans to make the crossing, but that will now rise to £3. Tamar Tag Holders will pay £1.50 rather than £1.30.

A public inquiry was held in October 2024 where the decision to make the increases was reached.

In a statement, the Department for Transport said the transport secretary Heidi Alexander "is satisfied that the proposed toll revisions are justified".

She agreed "that without a toll increase, the services would not be sustainable and that the proposed increases are necessary to ensure the continued operation of the crossings".

Tamar Crossings said it will implement the increases as soon as is practical.
