Police crack down on metal thefts in Devon

Police have completed a month-long crackdown on metal thefts throughout Devon and Cornwall.

During February, response officers supported by officers from local policing teams implemented Operation Mountain, a proactive operation designed to disrupt and reduce the number of metal thefts in the force area.

The recent high prices of metals has resulted in an increase of thefts.

Travelling criminals have targeted isolated rural locations in Devon like new build developments, industrial sites, the rail network, areas with installed cables, churches and schools

Throughout the force area - particularly during nights - officers stop checked vehicles on roads which intelligence indicated were linked to metals thefts.

Response and local policing team officers conducted high-visibility disruptive patrols in areas near to high-value targets

The Force will be running similar operations in the future.
