James Williams changed his plea

A Devon man has been sentenced to six and a half years for sexually abusing two girls.

James Williams, 39, of Shakespeare Road, pleaded guilty to multiple child sexual abuse offenses after changing his plea midway through his trial.

Williams was convicted of four counts of sexual assault by touching, possessing extreme pornography, and taking an indecent image of a child. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.

Upon his arrest, forensic analysis of Williams' electronic devices revealed a collection of child sexual abuse images and videos, including some of the most serious kind. The devices also contained extreme pornography depicting sexual activity with animals and extreme genital mutilation.

During the investigation, a second victim came forward, reporting a separate sexual abuse incident that occurred in the 2010s. Williams was subsequently charged with these offences as well.

Detective Constable Tracey Swift said: “I would like to commend the victims for their tremendous bravery and strength, firstly to be able to disclose what had happened to them and then throughout the police investigation with their continued willingness to make Williams answer for the crimes that he committed against them.”
