Playparks and public toilets in Exeter are CLOSED

Two car parks closed too.

The Mary Arches Street Car Park and the John Lewis Car Park were also closed by the council on Tuesday night.

Residents’ parking permits will be accepted in all of the council’s surface car parks during the outbreak. 

A city council spokesman said that Devon County Council On-Street permits can be used in Exeter City Council surface car parks within the general residents zone for which they’ve been issued, for example Newtown permits will provide free parking in Triangle, Belmont Road and Parr Street car parks.

The Council’s Customer Service Centre in Paris Street has also closed its doors to the general public, with customers encouraged to contact the Council online or by phone. Emergency housing advice however does remain open.

But Exeter Farmers Market on the corner of South Street and High Street does however remain open on Thursdays in line with government advice for essential food shops to remain open, although with the location of stalls altered slightly to take into account social distancing measures.

And all allotments in Exeter are all currently open following the latest Government advice and will remain so until the council is advised otherwise.

A spokesman added: “Travel to and from the allotments is permitted if due precautions are taken. Visiting the site constitutes your daily exercise set out by the government.

“However, any plot-holder who is self isolating because a household member is ill with coronavirus should not be visiting the site.

“If there is a community or trading hut on the site then this should not be re-opened until this level of isolation has been lifted.

“The toilets on site are also now off limits for use by anyone. Do not use them under any circumstances.”

Advice issued to tenants of the allotments added that they should keep their distance from other tenants to help limit the spread of the virus, do not share tools or any other equipment with another plot holder, be careful after touching site gates, locks or other communal assets, do not use the water troughs to wash hands or equipment to sterilise them, and to stay on your plot at all times and do not enter another plot under any circumstances.

• Exeter Corn Exchange
• Exeter Underground Passages
• Red Coat guided tours
• Exeter Visitor Information & Tickets
• Matford Sunday Market & Car Boot Sale

Household waste and recycling collections continue to take place as normal although the household waste recycling centres operated by Devon County Council in Pinhoe and Exton Road have closed.
