Costero Lounge is moving into the former Harvester

A Paignton seafront pub is to get a massive makeover as it joins a chain of trendy cafe/bars stretching across the westcountry.

The former Harvester, next to the town’s Vue Cinema, closed at the end of its summer season, but in November it will open as the Costero Lounge, joining the chain of ‘Lounge’ venues.

Planning applications have been lodged with Torbay Council for alterations to the building.

Devon already has a Visto Lounge in Torquay, the Orsino Lounge in Newton Abbot, the Puerto Lounge in Exeter and the Tarko Lounge in Barnstaple.

Founded in Bristol in 2002, The Loungers chain now operates in more than 20 locations.

The company says its Costero Lounge will open all day, every day. Its build and design team will transform the former Harvester into the group’s ‘unmistakable and unique’ style.

Community manager Gemma Irwin said it will have the community and neighbourhood “at its heart,” continuing: “We will welcome locals looking for a space for regular catch ups, meetings and events – everything from business networking, book or knitting clubs to parent and baby meets and life drawing classes!

“We hope our family friendly environment and top-notch food and drink offering will prove popular with local residents.

“We’re passionate about integrating genuinely into the communities we serve so we’re looking forward to meeting everyone and to playing our part at the heart of Paignton’s food and drink scene.”
