NHS to reveal changes at community hospitals

Proposals for the future of Devon's community hospitals are to be released by the NHS later this month. There are concerns that they'll include the loss of inpatient beds at some of the hospitals in east Devon.

There's been speculation that one of the proposals is to reduce inpatient beds at five hospitals - Axminster, Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Seaton and Sidmouth - from 64 to 48.

That could also mean only providing the beds at three of those sites.

The local NHS won't give any details of what's being considered yet ... but has told local councillors the current model of community hospitals isn't sustainable and needs to change.

The Clinical Commissioning Group will reveal its plans on September 17th at its AGM and through the media, launching the start of a public consultation.
