CO2 saved equivalent to navigating globe 550 times
Devon hospitals holding phone and video appointments during the pandemic have saved patients over 13 million miles of travelling.
The NHS also predicts staying at home cut more than 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Going online has gone down well with patients too. Feedback from Northern Devon Healthcare Trust showed patients saved time and money in travelling.
Doctors were forced online last year because of the pandemic, and although face-to-face appointments have returned, many people feel more comfortable seeing their doctor at home.
The NHS says it is first national health system globally to go carbon-zero, and online appointments are a way of cutting emissions.
