Smaller but perfectly formed
After a break for covid, Newton Abbot has staged its first carnival for three years.
Smaller than in the past, the event was nevertheless well supported.
As well as a procession of floats, residents enjoyed a week-long programme of festival events too.
Mayor, Cllr Carol Bunday has spoken of her pride in the town. She said: "We had a lovely week, beginning of course with the crowning of our carnival queen and live music by the clock tower.
"Our evening events were very well attended and the family entertainments proved to be hugely popular with people mingling and staying around afterwards just to enjoy the atmosphere."
Cllr Bunday also represented the town at other events including a celebration of Rotary’s centenary staged at Newton’s Place, prize-giving at Stover School and a new multi-use games area at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre. She was in Exeter for the first Lammas Fair in three years - a medieval tradition based around a procession of representatives of the city's historic guilds.
