Talks are taking place this week on the future of dog contols in Exeter parks. It comes after a second incident in which a smaller dog was attacked by a bull terrier in Belmont Park.
Last summer an elderly woman's dog was mauled to death in front of her by a bull terrier - leading to discussions on the possibility of a byelaw making owners keep their pets on leads.
But no new rules were introduced... and earlier this month a woman was bitten while trying to rescue her dog when it was attacked by a bull terrier.
In response to that the city council said it would be looking at its policy regarding dogs on leads in parks - and this week the councillor for environment, health and well-being is attending a meeting of Newtown residents to gauge their opinions.
He will then meet council officers later in the week to discuss the matter further.
