Man injured in circus bike stunt

Today's performance cancelled

A circus stunt in Exmouth has gone wrong, leading to a man suffering serious injuries.

A performance involving two motorcyclists at the show on the town's Imperial Road Recreation Ground on Wednesday evening, ended with a collision.

South West Ambulance Service sent a number of crews. Devon Air Ambulance also attended, along with police.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and a guard was put in place at the venue following the incident.

On Facebook, the circus thanked people for their good wishes and confirmed that Thursday's performance won't be going ahead.

People expressed their admiration for the skilled performers, some noting that such an incident is proof that circus skills can be risky. One respondent wrote: Proof that what they do is truly skillful! And dangerous! Wishing all the best for a speedy recovery."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: "We sent one double-crewed ambulance, two hazardous area response teams, two air ambulances and one rapid response vehicle.

"We conveyed one patient by air to Derriford Hospital."

Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with mobile phone footage to get in touch via email or by calling 101, quoting 896 of 13 July.
