Man admits Help for Heroes fraud

A mid Devon garage owner who collected 300 thousand pounds for a military charity but kept the money himself has been told he faces a jail sentence.


51 year old garage owner Christopher Copeland admitted to the fraud at Exeter Crown Court.

The court heard he recruited teams of volunteers to travel around Britain,collecting for Help for Heroes at supermarkets.

The collectors believed the money was genuinely destined for the charity - but one became suspicious and contacted police.

Copeland will be sentenced in September.
