Loss of youth centres 'will put youngsters at risk'

A local youth worker is raising concerns that the loss of youth centres across Devon will leave children and teenagers vulnerable to crime.

The county council is continuing to run eight centres in locations including Exeter, Tiverton and Exmouth as 'hubs' - but many others could be lost.

Youth worker Dan Eynin says many of his colleagues are worried about the implications for young people, as they lose the support and guidance of trained professionals.

The county council has appealed to local community groups to come forward and take over the running of services including youth centres and libraries, and has received a total of 160 expressions of interest... a hundred people attended a meeting on Friday at County Hall to discuss the idea
