A device costing just ten pounds which can diagnose a potentially fatal lung disease has been developed by a scientist from Exeter University.... and will soon be in use around the world.
Professor Chris Thornton's invention will enable hospital staff to test for the disease as part of their normal routine.
The infection attacks patients with low immunity such as those being treated for cancer or recovering from bone marrow transplants.
The device is currently being trialled at the RD&E hospital's leukaemia unit.
