Honiton-bound train crashes

Major incident near Salisbury

A South West Railways train travelling to Honiton from London Waterloo has collided with another service running between Portsmouth Harbour and Bristol Temple Meads.

Wiltshire Police say the crash is on the line between Andover and Salisbury, whilst Network Rail reports it is at Fisherton Tunnel near Salisbury station. It is thought one of the trains is on its side, but early indications are that no one is seriously injured.

Around 50 firefighters were at the scene on Sunday evening. British Transport Police say they were called around 6.45 p.m.

The trains involved are the 1720 from London Waterloo to Devon and the 1708 GWR service from Portsmouth.

About a dozen people are thought to be hurt, and the driver of one of the trains trapped in the cab.

Details are sketchy at the time of writing.
