Fire service cuts go out for consultation

The Devon and Somerset Fire Authority have agreed to take a programme of controversial spending cuts to the next stage.

The authority met this morning to discuss the plans, which include some changes to front line services, after a five and a half million pound reduction in Government funding over the next two years.

The Fire Brigades Union are concerned that changing some crews from whole-time to on-call will slow down response times.

The proposals will now go out for public consultation.
