Project is ‘much campaigned-for, long-awaited and widely-supported’
Generations of skaters in Totnes are in line for a "fantastic" new skate park after councillors threw their unanimous support behind the project.
They heard that the campaign for the new facility had been going on for so long that one of the young skaters who started it now had a ‘baby skater’ of his own.
South Hams Council’s planning committee united behind the plan, paving the way for work to begin.
They reviewed a proposal to remove existing steel ramps at Borough Park, replacing them with a new concrete skate park on part of the existing site with an extension. Trees in the area will be protected.
Totnes town councillor Tim Bennett told the committee the new park had been ‘much campaigned-for, long-awaited and widely-supported’.
“Its completion would enhance Borough Park’s role as the town’s main sports and recreation area,” he said.
And Cllr Georgina Allen (Green, Totnes) added: “I’m delighted to see this coming through. It has been a long time coming. It looks like a fantastic skate park.”
South Hams Council owns the land needed for the park.
