Drunk driver jailed for killing woman

Jason Frost, 53, drove away without stopping

A drunk driver who ran over a woman lying on a road in Torquay has been jailed.

53-year-old Jason Frost from Paignton admitted death by careless driving whilst being over the alcohol limit.

He was twice the limit when he struck Sophie Bond, aged 30, and drove away without stopping in January.

Frost appeared at Exeter Crown court yesterday [10 October], where he was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.

He was also disqualified from driving for eight years and one month, with an extended test required.

Investigating officer, PC Phil Rooks, from the Serious Collision Investigation Team said; “The investigation team work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and rely on the judicial process to sentence at the appropriate level.

“Drivers must be held responsible for their actions and the decisions they make, and on that fateful night Mr Frost chose to drink drive not realising the implications of doing so. We hope this is a warning to other motorists who might make that decision to drive when having consumed alcohol.

“While no sentence will ever be enough for the family and friends of Sophie, we hope it will bring some closure. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Sophie.”
