Disco beach clean increases numbers

Headphones & pickers at the ready!

Beachgoers at Woolacombe beach are now participating in Silent Disco Beach Cleans to help protect nature.

The collaboration between North Devon National Trust rangers and Plastic Free Woolacombe aims to attract new volunteers, especially younger ones.

The introduction of headphone-filled tunes has led to a rise in the number of participants, with one event attracting nearly 100 people - surpassing the expected turnout for a typical beach clean.

Beach cleans not only enhance the safety of marine wildlife like seabirds and marine mammals but also create a more attractive environment for visitors.

The monthly beach cleans, in collaboration with Plastic Free Woolacombe, have attracted a diverse audience, including many young people, to help maintain the cleanliness of the beach.

Beachgoers at Woolacombe are now exchanging their boogie boards for headphones and litter pickers, showing their commitment to environmental preservation.

With Silent Disco Beach Cleans set to continue on the last Sunday of each month throughout the summer, it is hoped that more will lend a hand in keeping the beach, rock pool and dunes sandy tidy.
