Devon sport round-up

Local results from this week

It’s been another busy week for our Devon sides, with mid-week fixtures for all professional football teams around the county.

It was a disappointing week for Plymouth Argyle supporters, who were knocked out of the FA Cup fourth round in extra time against Leeds United at Home Park and lost three, one away at Sunderland in the Championship. The Pilgrims still sit 15th in the league and are seven points safe from the relegation zone.

Exeter City have had a positive week, winning both League One matches two-one. They beat Peterborough at St James Park on Tuesday and were victorious against away against Wigan Athletic. The Grecians have won four of their last five League One matches and now sit 13th. They are eight points safe from the relegation zone and 13 away from the play-off places.

It is not a pleasant site if you are a Torquay fan, with one point in five matches and seven goals conceded this week. On Tuesday evening, the Gulls lost three- two away at Maidstone United and lost four-three on Saturday at home against Slough Town. This appalling form slips them down to 11th in the National League South and five points away from the play-off places.

There are no Premiership matches in rugby for another six weeks to avoid clashing with the six nations. Exeter Chiefs played a friendly to brush aside cobwebs ahead of the Premiership Rugby Cup semi-final away at Gloucester on Saturday 17 February.

The Chiefs welcomed Welsh side Scarlets to Sandy Park and thumped them 57, 19, scoring nine tries.

Plymouth Albion have fallen short at another away match in the National League One- They lost 31-3 away at Sale FC. They remain fourth in the league.
