Poachers reported in Teignbridge

More police will be patrolling rural parts of Teignbridge as authorities crack down on suspected deer poaching.

Farmers and members of the public have reportedly seen individuals armed with hunting guns and using dogs for illegal coursing in deer hot spots.

Devon & Cornwall Police will also use cutting-edge tactics, including deploying advanced thermal imaging and drones.

PC Miller said, "The specialist equipment at our disposal will dramatically enhance our ability to identify and deter these poachers, enabling us to cover vast terrain in minimal time.

“Furthermore, we will not hesitate to conduct stop searches on anyone suspected of involvement in poaching, and we will seize firearms, animals, vehicles, and all hunting-related equipment"

"This isn't just about the cruel and unethical killing of deer; it also introduces significant safety risks through the potential use of illegal firearms and the danger of contaminated venison entering the market.

It is therefore paramount that we dismantle this illegal activity and safeguard our deer populations."

Officers are appealing to anyone with information to call 101, or click here.
