New lease for Sandy Lane ground
Young footballers in Dawlish will be able to play under floodlights now they have been granted a new lease on their ground at Sandy Lane.
Members of Teignbridge Council’s executive committee praised Dawlish United’s youth and mini-soccer set-up, which has 300 players aged between seven and 15.
Granting a 10-year lease on Sandy Lane, with the option to extend for a further 10, will make it easier for the club to apply for grants to put up floodlights.
Cllr David Palethorpe (Lib Dem, Ipplepen) said: “This is very important for the development of the club.
“It means they can actually do things outside the season. It gives them the opportunity to raise funds and continue to develop their club as part of the community. I think this is an excellent way forward.”
And council leader Martin Wrigley (Lib Dem, Dawlish NE) added: “They do a fantastic job.
“This is a really good community facility for a town which is expanding.”
