Danny Coles stripped of Exeter captaincy

Coles sacked as captain and placed on transfer list

Exeter City captain Danny Coles has been removed from his post and placed on the transfer list after abusing a teenage fan on Twitter.

In a statement following a disciplinary hearing, the club say they will not tolerate abuse in any form.

Manager Paul Tisdale has yet to announce who will lead the team in the new season.

Last month Coles had described an England and Everton player as "a car crash waiting to happen". A 14-year-old boy followed up the Exeter player's Twitter post with: "so like you at Exeter."  Mr Coles then directed a tirade of four letter words at the boy on social media.

In addition to being removed as captain, Mr Coles has also been fined two weeks' wages. He has apologised for his comments.

Exeter City says it will not be making any further comment on the matter.
