Coronation bus take to South Devon's roads

It's fit for a king (but he's unlikely to catch it)

A special commemorative bus is taking to Devon's roads to mark the coronation of the king on Saturday.

Stagecoach South West has kitted out one of its double deckers E400 in the Torbay Fleet in celebratory livery. It was designed and painted in house at the company’s head office at Marsh Barton, Exeter, which has own paint shop.

The bus is plying the number 12 route, connecting Brixham with Paignton, Torquay and Newton Abbot up to every 10 minutes.

Although the king is well past pensionable age, and thus eligible for a free bus pass, it's thought unlikely he will be catching the number 12 between Newton Abbot and Brixham, although if he were to do so, he'd see the monument to his ancestor, several times removed, William of Orange, who landed into the Torbay town from the Netherlands to take the throne in the Glorious Revolution.

Stagecoach South West managing director Peter Knight said: "Stagecoach are proud to join the community in Commemorating the coronation of King Charles III. This is an important event for our country, and it is great to be able to mark this special occasion with some festive activities and a commemorative bus. We hope that our customers across the south west, and visitors to our region will enjoy spotting the bus out on the road."
