Exmouth lifeboat diverted from training exercise
A woman who had fallen from cliffs has been rescued by a coastguard team with the help of an RNLI lifeboat crew which was on a training exercise.
Exmouth's all-weather lifeboat was asked by the Coastguard to head to an area near Teignmouth between Ness Cove and Labrador Bay on Wednesday evening.
The 56-year-old woman had called for help, leading to coastguard rescue teams and the police swinging into action, as well as the RNLI, which began a close search of the shoreline in the area the woman described.
She was found by the coastguard rescue team at a cliff location and her injuries were assessed. The lifeboat was stood down half an hour later once a recovery plan was in place.
Exmouth RNLI Coxswain, Steve Hockings-Thompson, said: "This was a multi agency response involving several other emergency search and rescue services. We were pleased to assist, respond quickly to the tasking and give what help we could to ensure this incident resulted in a positive outcome."
The charity’s lifeboat, commanded by coxswain Steve Hockings-Thompson and volunteer crew Mark Sansom, Harry Griffin, Guy Munnings, Matt Bragg, Ed Steele and James Edge went to the last known location of the casualty and commenced a shoreline search. Deputy launch authority Rob Anderson coordinated the tasking.
