Chef Caines 'most influential person in Exeter'

The chef Michael Caines has been judged the most influential person in Exeter. He was the overall winner of the Power 50 awards, held last night, which rewarded the 50 people who make an outstanding contribution to the city.

Michael Caines was recognised for the benefits he brings to  tourism, leisure, business, education and charity - as well as running the top restaurant Gidleigh Park.  

Tony Rowe, the chairman and chief executive of the Exeter Chiefs came top in the small to  medium business category; the vice-chancellor of Exeter University Steve Smith won the large business category.

The city council's chief executive Karime Hassan received the community award and Camilla Hampshire from the Royal Albert memorial  museum won the creative arts and media category.
