Channel 4 thinks Launceston is in Devon

Mr Mercer speaking from a new part of Devon

Or could services MP annex it?

Could nne of the newest members of the cabinet, Plymouth Moor View MP Johnny Mercer, be about to annex Launceston?

Mr Mercer, who quit the government, in 2019, is now back - this time with a seat at the very top of government, after a turbulent week in which more than 50 ministers or senior Conservative MPs resigned.

Interviewed about his decision to accept Boris Johnson's invitation to rejoin the government, Mr Mercer was billed as speaking from Launceston, Devon.

He won't have seen that on-screen caption during the broadcast.

Later in the news programme, presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy apologised for the "stupid mistake" by another reporter.

Resigning in 2019, he told Mr Johnson that the government had "abandoned people in a way I simply cannot reconcile" in allowing "endless investigations" into historic killings to continue.

He added: "Veterans are being sectioned, drinking themselves to death and dying well before their time, simply because the UK government cannot find the moral strength or courage we asked of them in bringing peace to Northern Ireland in finding a political solution to stop these appalling injustices."

His new job is as cabinet minister for army veterans, the first time such a role has been created.
