Paignton gun club gets lease extension
Sharpshooters in Paignton can set their sights on 40 more years of target practice after a gun club was given permission to carry on shooting.
Founded in 1901, Paignton Rifle and Pistol Club has a new long lease from Torbay Council that will allow it to apply for grants to maintain its shooting range at Clennon Valley.
It also plans to apply for funding for equipment to encourage junior members.
The building which houses its rifle range is needs maintenance. The club has been carrying out short-term repairs, but says the new long lease will allow it to plan long-term works, including replacing the roof.
Other plans include improving the firing ranges and improving access.
Torbay Council warned that not granting the lease would mean a lost opportunity to support the club.
