    42 seats are being contested

More than 100 people are standing for election to Mid Devon District Council next month.

A full list of candidates has been revealed for the poll on Thursday 4 May, in which all 42 council seats will be contested.

The last full elections were in 2019. It resulted in no party having overall control, after the Conservatives lost 10 seats – largely to the benefit of the Liberal Democrats.

The council had until recently been run by an Independent/Conservative coalition, but it collapsed in February after the Tory group disagreed with Independent leader Bob Deed over the future of the authority’s controversial housing development company, 3 Rivers.

The Conservative members then left the cabinet, and Cllr Deed subsequently resigned. Fellow independent Barry Warren was later appointed until the election.

Ahead of the vote, the council’s current makeup consists of Conservatives (17), Independents (12), Liberal Democrats (11) and Greens (2). Labour currently has no councillors on Mid Devon.
