Bicton students complete gruelling charity challenge

Chin up; in 48 hours it will be over!

They run four miles, every four hours for 48 hours

A tough Navy Seal has created an even-tougher charity challenge for students at Bicton College's Military and Protective Services Academy.

In an event called 4x4x48, students cheerily enough (at least at the start) ran four miles, every four hours, for 48 hours, making it a test of mental as well as a physical strength as the student had to get up and run multiple times, even overnight.

Teacher Dougie Wright described his central philosophy as "cheerfulness in the face of adversity."

Mr Wright created the event to raise funds for the RNLI, for which he has volunteered previously at Exmouth lifeboat station  But planning, preparation and organisation was down to his students at Bicton College students.

They set up the 'Bicton zone' - AKA the sports hall - a makeshift village with sleeping zones, communal areas and a diner for the two days.

Student Alice Cooper said that "getting everyone to work together was really good, everyone kept going at it and it turned out really well."

You can follow the progress of Dougie and the team via the Bicton College Military and Protective Services Facebook page here, and donate to the cause on fundraising page via Enthuse here.
