5 miles of queuing traffic on A38

There's been a gas leak near Ivybridge.

Wales and West Utilities say they are working to repair a gas leak on the A38.

One lane has been closed both westbound and eastbound, causing queues of more than 4 miles.

Andy Jones, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager said:

“This is a complex job and we do not yet know how long our work will take. Our engineers worked through the night and will continue to work today to repair the leak as safely and as quickly as possible.

“As this essential work is likely to cause some disruption, we would advise road users to plan ahead and use alternative routes if possible.

“We appreciate that working on roads like this one is not ideal, but it is important that we fix this leak now, so we continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to local homes and businesses.

Highway England says there's 4.5 miles of congestion travelling east (Exeter-bound) and 5 miles west (Plymouth-bound), and warned drivers to allow an extra 30 minutes for their journeys.
