Sam Hammond carried 'Fridget Jones'
A south west Royal Marine is now a double world record holder after running the London Marathon with a fridge strapped to his back.
Sam Hammond, 30, was already a world record holder for running a half marathon with a fridge. Now he's done the full 26+ miles.
Before Sunday, the record for the fastest full marathon carrying a household appliance (white goods) was five hours, 49 minutes and 37 seconds.
Corporal Hammond knocked 57 seconds off that.
The RNAS Culdrose serviceman was raising money for armed forces charity SSAFA.
Writing on Instagram, he said: "A time of 4:52:10, I’ve taken 57 minutes off the old world record! Guiness world records accepted this today.
"Started off really well, accidentally running to fast for the first 15 miles with the incredible atmosphere! Pace slowed down by about 20 seconds until I hit mile 21.
"Cramp became my enemy and the battle got tough, a mixture of walking and running saw me struggle to the finish.
"Thanks to every single person that has messaged, supported, followed me or donated it is hugely appreciated and I wouldn’t be here without you."
