“Mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect”
Plymouth Argyle have sacked manager Wayne Rooney.
The former England captain leaves the club bottom of the Championship, four points from safety, after picking up just four wins from 23 matches.
The club say they have “mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect”.
Departing the club with Rooney will be Assistant Head Coach Mike Phelan and first team coach Simon Ireland.
Argyle’s first team coach Kevin Nancekivell and Club Captain Joe Edwards will lead the team for their Championship match against Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
Daryl Flahavan will continue as Goalkeeping coach.
Rooney and the teams were booed off following Sunday's 2-0 defeat by Oxford United - their sixth defeat in a nine-game winless run that began in early November.
