University 'Safer Sex Ball' cancelled

The Students' Guild at Exeter University has announced the annual Safer Sex Ball will no longer take place after a string of controversies.

The news follows negative national press coverage when CCTV footage was leaked showing students having sex in a bar.

The event has previously been critisised for promoting promiscuity as students who attend are only dressed in underwear.

In a statement, a spokesperson said "it's a regret the SSB can no longer exist in its current format", adding: "In recent years the negative reputational damage has overshadowed the outstanding work that the committee and RAG (Raising and Giving) do to generate charitable funds and student opportunities. Therefore, the Guild and RAG are working together to formulate a way in which these student opportunities and charitable funds remain, in an interesting way for the University of Exeter student body.'
