Radio Exe's audience doubles!

More than 100,000 listeners a month

Radio Exe now has more than 100,000 listeners, new audience figures have confirmed.

The station, which is the only broadcaster, commercial or BBC, with programmes from Devon all day, every day, has enjoyed a steady rise in monthly listening over the past two years.

The latest data from industry analysts Rajar/ Ipsos MORI show Radio Exe's audience has doubled since September 2022.

The organisation doesn't survey listeners in the Plymouth, West Devon and parts of the South Hams, but separate data shows almost 20,000 listeners in those areas to Radio Exe's digital streams.

And listeners on DAB digital radio in those areas and also in Torridge, North Devon and parts of Cornwall are not measured at all.

The figures come in the month in which new legislation comes into force, enabling radio stations to reduce the amount of local content they produce, or change their music formats without getting permission from the broadcast regulator.

Radio Exe, by contrast, has invested more in local news and content.

The station has also launched new services, including Devoncast, a podcast station with a range of speech programmes, Radio Exe Flashback and its Christmas channel Radio ExeMas. These stations are not included in the new listening figures.

Managing director Paul Nero says: "In an era where there's more competition for listening than ever before, more people are tuning our way, and we're grateful for the trust they are showing in us. We'll work hard to keep the standards up and produce local radio for people who love being part of Devon."
