Eating horsemeat is good for the ponies, say experts, but some people are not so sure
Dartmoor ponies, which have been in decline over the past few years, could get a new lease of life, now that some are being turned into sausages.
The Dartmoor Hill Pony Association is selling their meat online and at a farmers' market.
The ponies are important for the ecology - but because they're not usually profitable, many farmers have stopped keeping them.
But the idea of pony-bangers doesn't appeal to some people in Exeter that Radio Exe spoke with on Monday. Some thought they were a protected breed. Others seemed a bit squeamish. A few saw both sides of the argument, reconginising that it will reduce the number of horses shot in their first year.
