A reserved matters planning application for the construction of 180 new homes for land at Blackthorn Lane in Cranbrook has been submitted to East Devon District Council.
The housing proposals comprise a range of house types, ranging from one-bed apartments to four-bedroom houses, but 30 per cent will be affordable housing and 10 per cent will be affordable by design.
The application says: “The residential proposals in the Reserved Matters application fall within the scope of the outline permission and as such, the environmental impacts have previously been assess. The application proposals do no alter the nature or scale of the impacts that have been assessed.
“The proposed development will contribute to the Local Plan policy requirement for the provision of around 6,300 new homes in Cranbrook and the application forms an integral component in the delivery of housing in the new Cranbrook community.
“The benefits of the development proposals clearly outweigh any adverse effects, which in practice will be minimal, and the benefits include the delivery of a distinctive, high-quality, inclusive residential development which is well connected and makes a positive contribution to the Cranbrook new community.
“The design incorporates the principles of ‘Secured by Design’ to create an environment which discourages crime and anti-social behaviour and streets have been designed to reduce traffic speeds.”
East Devon District Council planners will decide on the application at a later date.
