It could "potentially" be located on the seafront
Further consultation will take place to identify the best place for a watersports centre in Teignmouth.
The watersports centre scheme would bring an investment of an estimated £1.2 million to the site and provide fit for purpose paddle based watersports facilities for the town, the report to the executive said, stating: “The logical site for the water sports centre is the Lower Point Car Park with the opportunity to create a fit for purpose premises, potentially self-sustaining and in a prominent location on the Teignmouth seafront.”
Councillor Chris Clarence said: “There is a huge business opportunity to develop it in a big way by reclaiming some land adjacent to Polly Steps. It could create a watersports centre for all and the overall facility would create a huge income for the council. My message is to think big as Lower Point isn’t a big enough area to achieve much, and the lifeboat doesn’t need congestion in the lane when it launches. There needs to be consultation on this.”
Councillor Sylvia Russell added: “The watersports centre has created a long of interest in the town and I am very pleased to hear there will be consultation on this, as the report doesn’t really indicate there would be any."
