A new £5.7 million junction, off the A361North Devon Link Road near Tiverton, has been officially opened.

Local bigwigs, including the area's MP and Devon County Council's chairman, gathered to cut a ribbon at what is called the Tiverton Eastern Urban Extension access junction connecting to developments east of the Mid Devon town.

Redrow South West is building 700 homes, 22,000 sq. m of employment land, a 60-bed care home and a primary school near the A361. The company has paid for and built the junction.

The junction will provide access to the development and reduce pressure on areas such as Blundell’s School by diverting traffic away from Halberton and Blundell’s Road.

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council cabinet member with responsibility for infrastructure and development, said: “It will open up access to future developments, which will help continue economic growth in the county and will help reduce the amount of traffic away from Halberton and Blundell’s Road.”

Sian Smith, sales director for Redrow South West, said: “The slip road will help reduce traffic through the town centre, as well as acting as a quicker and easier way for locals to reach the A371, making the commute to nearby towns and cities less of a chore. The brand-new road is just the start of the huge investment we’ll be injecting into the area, which includes support for education providers, a sports centre and cycle paths.
