New vaccination centre opens in South Hams too
More than one million covid-19 vaccines have been administered in Devon and Cornwall up to Sunday 28 March.
Of the 1,057,602 jabs, 949,981 were first doses.
In Devon, 642,832 people (64 per cent) have had their first dose, and 71,795 of them the second dose (seven per cent), while in Cornwall, 307,149 people have had their first dose (66 per cent), with 35,826 a second dose (eight per cent).
In East Devon, South Hams, Torbay, Teignbridge, Torridge and West Devon, more than 70 per cent of adults have had at least one dose.
By district, the figures for people having one dose are East Devon (71 per cent), Exeter (52 per cent), Isles of Scilly (82 per cent), Mid Devon (67 per cent), North Devon 69 per cent), Plymouth (60 per cent), South Hams (70 per cent), Teignbridge (71 per cent), Torbay (70 per cent), Torridge (70 per cent) and in West Devon 72 per cent).
It comes as the South Hams District Council office headquarters, Follaton House, will be used by the South Dartmoor and Totnes and South Hams Primary Care Networks as a covid vaccination centre from Wednesday, 7 April, replacing the St Boniface, Buckfast, site, which allows capacity to double.
Martin Randall, lead manager, South Dartmoor and South Hams covid vaccination service, said: “We are very excited about moving to Follaton House, which will enable us to double our capacity per day as we move to second phase of the programme. This will allow us to provide first doses for our younger population whilst administering second doses for our earlier cohorts. The site is located more centrally and will reduce travelling times for those who live in the south of the area."
