Man charged after University firearms incident

The 25 year old has appeared in court

A man has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence following an incident at the University of Exeter yesterday (Wednesday 19th June).

Armed police stormed a University building after reports a student was threatening others with a handgun. 


Yihe Xiong, of Bonhay Road, Exeter, appeared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday 20 June).

Superintendent Matt Lawler, the local police commander for Exeter, East and Mid Devon, said:  "I would like to reiterate our thanks to the university, its staff and students for their calm response and their assistance with our investigation.
