Walkers get sinking feeling
Two walkers found themselves in a sticky situation on Sunday lunchtime when they became stuck up to their knees in mud whilst strolling at Mamhead near Dawlish.
Fire crews from Dawlish and Torquay, together with a 4x4 vehicle and a special rescue officer answered their call for help and headed to the public footpath on farmland where they were sinking further, but we otherwise in good health.
With the walkers now waist deep in mud, four firefighters in wading suits, used mud mats and a mud lance in the rescue. The mud lance blows compressed air into the mud close to the walkers' feet and legs, thus creating an air pocket so they could free their limbs.
Once released the casualties were slid across the mud mats to safety and checked over by fire crews.
It took about an hour and a half from the initial call to the emergency services to free the walkers.
