£2.8m will fund city improvements

Exeters' businesses have overwhelmingly voted to renew InExeter, the Business Improvement District (BID), for a third term.

A resounding 90% of the city centre's companies jointly decided to keep them in charge for another 5 years.

The BID has secured £2.8 million to continue its work revitalizing the city centre from April 2025 to March 2030.

Over a four-week voting period, 334 businesses cast their ballots, resulting in a 48% turnout. This strong endorsement, both by number and rateable value, reflects the significant impact InExeter has had on the city centre over the past decade.

Through levy contributions, the BID has successfully delivered transformative projects that have made Exeter a more vibrant, welcoming, and resilient destination.

Nicola Wheeler, CEO of InExeter, said:

"Thank you to all the businesses who have supported and voted to ensure another five years of investment in Exeter. Looking ahead, we plans to channel the £2.8 million investment into a range of focused projects designed to enhance the safety and appeal of Exeter’s daytime, evening, and night time economies.

Key areas include continuing to invest in the new Community Safety Team and maintaining the popular seven-day street cleansing service, festive lighting, greening initiatives and 10 new street art projects. By continuing to celebrate Exeter’s unique character and supporting local business ambitions, InExeter is poised to help create an even brighter future for the city."
