After a rapid rise from Exeter City, Ampadu has already stamped his authority in the Chelsea team playing alongside Europe's best players, but can he become world class? Antonio Conte, Chelsea manager, believe he has a "Great Future."
The 17-year-old defender was sitting his GCSEs back in Exeter when Chelsea lifted the Premier League trophy in May.
Ampadu, who attended St Luke's School in Exeter, made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Huddersfield and won his first international cap for Wales against France. It's been a remarkable few months for the highly rated youngster, who is just as comfortable in midfield as in defence.
Conte has praised Ampadu for his recent performances in the past couple of months:
"He showed great maturity and personality." Said Conte.
"If you remember, I spoke about this player in an enthusiastic way. I said in the past that this player, despite his young age, has shown great maturity. I don't like to make gifts for someone. If they deserve it, I'm ready to play with very young players. Why not. Ampadu deserved to play this game and against Everton and against Huddersfield in the league. Now he has to stay calm.
“Maybe next game, he'll go to play for the youth league. I don't know. But this player is very humble. He could have a great future, but he has to continue in this way, to improve and to work.
Steve Perryman, Exeter City Director of Football, who recently announced his retirement at the end of the season, spoke high praise of the talented youngster:
"You don't make Chelsea's first XI in any type of game unless you are something special," he said. "They can take players from anywhere in the world but they have come down here and picked up this lad from Exeter City. He can be as good as anyone."
