Heathland fire ran for quarter of a mile

Molland Common blaze took five hours to put out

Fire crews from five based worked on heathland fire on Molland Common in North Devon on Sunday afternoon.

Three pumping appliances and a water carrier were initially sent, but asked for more resources when they saw the extent of the blaze.

Eventually fire engines and a water carrier, along with an incident command unit and an all terrain vehicle went to the scene, which also involved officers using scotty back packs and beaters. 

Devon and Somerset fire and rescue said approximately 500m x 300m of healthland was affected. The cause of the fire hasn't been revealed.
