Devon's fire service will report an underspend of more than two point six million pounds at a meeting later this week.
They say it's because they've made an early start on cutbacks.
41 back office posts have already been scrapped so they can invest in fire stations, a fire safety programme and in building up reserves.
The underspend comes amidst concerns about reductions in crew at some fire stations
